Joey Meets Reality

"Joey Meets Reality" is a concept I worked on for so long and it's a little heart-breaking that I could never fine-tune it enough to make it into something more. But after two failed attempts at making it a comic book and three failed attempts at making it a comic strip series - in total, over a hundred hours worth of work(!) I decided it wasn't going to happen just now. Not giving away too much in case I ever come back to it - Joey Meets Reality is about a new graduate (Joey) who meets Life's Truths personified as his best friend (Reality).

Being An ALT: Summary in a Comic

This needs no explanation and it makes me cringe because I have been here ten months. Perhaps I will take comfort in the fact that it's probably not just me (right?!). So, this is my life working in a (wonderful) Japanese school.

Starkid

So, turns out Harry Potter actually has a fan-based musical by Team Starkid that is so hilarious and wonderful I can't put it into words. It actually came out five years ago and since then Team Starkid has grown quite a huge fan-base, but I only found out about it since coming to Japan.

Anyway, since then they have done equally totally awesome productions including two Harry Potter musical sequels, Holy Musical B@man, MAMD, Starship and their most recent, Twisted, all of which I highly recommend.

On slow work days or just those lazy weekends I like to draw and do lettering. I have mangled my hand from so much writing (apparently I write incorrectly?!) but I'm too impatient to let it get better so... I mean, there's no punchline here - I just thought you should know.

Japan Life

Ah yes, lovely Japan. First off, my series The Adventures of Mike is featured (for the third month in a row!) in AJET Connect magazine so that's pretty exciting.

Disney Drawings

When I take breaks from drawing comics, I go on to draw quotes and characters that I love or leave an impression on me. I watched The Lion King last week for the first time in twelve years and if you haven't seen it in that long, YOU SHOULD. I forgot how incredibly amazing it is. I love it.

The First Post

Good afternoon.

I know what you're thinking. "Finally, that wonderful Marika has made a blog to keep all her one-off comics so now I can
A. Read them all the time, or
B. Stop seeing her spam Facebook with them."
Let me be the first (and only - since this solely my account) to say that this blog will have next to no order. I have no plans for it, but I do have a lot of comics, drawings and stories which hopefully will brighten your day. Let's kick the blog off with a few comics I have drawn.
